    Planning Your Arrival

     

    Plan to arrive at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). You'll want to depart your home city on January 9th to arrive at PUJ at or after 3:00PM. We will arrange group airport transfer for guests. Plan to depart the guest house on January 13th by noon.

     

    Formal retreat activities will not start until Monday, January 10th so your arrival day is a rest day, meant for you to enjoy on your own or with other retreat guests. We will host various wellness activities throughout the retreat (mostly in the morning) and will offer guests ample time for writing each day. In addition, we will host a sunrise hike on January 13th, your departure day.

    Accommodations

     

    The property, the Cocotal Mansion, is a combination of two villas located side by side: Lake View Villa (eight bedrooms) and Villa Wyss (four bedrooms,) located within minutes of Bavaro Beach. The villa includes air conditioning, wi-fi, two swimming pools with sunbeds, jacuzzi, flat screen televisions with cable and satellite television, pool tables, and work space.

     

    Note: Rooms are different sizes and larger rooms will be offered to guests on a first come, first serve basis. In other words, guests who book first will have priority placement in larger rooms. Additional details provided upon booking.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is included in the retreat cost?

    Package rate is inclusive of accommodations, retreat meals (breakfast, lunch, and snacks), retreat programming, wellness activities, and ground transportation to and from the airport. Airfare is not included.*

     

    If you choose to go to any additional excursions outside of the scheduled retreat activities, you will be responsible for the costs but we can help you arrange reservations and transportation.

    Do I need to book my own flight?

    Yes, you are responsible for booking your own flight to and from the destination. Plan to arrive at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). You'll want to depart your home city on January 9th to arrive at PUJ at or after 3:00PM. We will arrange group airport transfers for guests. Plan to depart the guest house on January 13th by noon.

    Is my purchase refundable?

    The retreat is a non-refundable purchase and is considered confirmed at the time of booking. No cancellation can be made. If cancellation takes place, 100% of your retreat fee shall be forfeited.

     

    Do I need a COVID-19 vaccination or negative COVID test?

    We do not require COVID-19 vaccination. However, all attendees (regardless of vaccination status) will be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

    What do I need for international travel?

    A passport valid for 6 months after travel.

    When do you publish the schedule?

    We generally do not publish the schedule on our website, it is only for confirmed attendees. But the activities listed on the main page will be included in our itinerary, barring any changes not under our control.

    When will I receive trip details?

    Within 72 hours of booking, you will receive a welcome message with general trip information. As the date of the retreat approaches over the next few months, you will receive emails on specifics relevant to your trip.

    How much free time will we have?

    Our retreat will include a healthy balance between group activities and solo free time to relax, read a book, take a walk, etc. We will build in leisure time for participants to go off on their own or simple stay near the guest house.

    Can I arrive early and stay late?

    You are more than welcome to book your travel to arrive early and/or stay post retreat. If you choose to do so, you will be responsible for the cost of your room at the guest house for those additional days.

    Is my purchase refundable?

You agree that neither the Thrive Institute for Professional Development nor its partners or vendors will be liable or responsible for a cancelled retreat for circumstances beyond reasonable control.

    Should I get travel insurance?

    Travel insurance is not mandatory, however we highly recommend you do purchase it, particularly during this climate and/or if you have a pre-existing condition. If you choose to do so, we suggest that you add "cancel for any reason" or "cancel for work reasons" to your policy. With "cancel for any reason" you will receive a percentage (usually 75%-100%) of all pre-paid costs. This option needs to be purchased within 15 days of trip payment.     Jasmine Abrams, PhD

    As an international behavioral research scientist, Dr. Abrams' work is conducted with the goal of utilizing culture as an avenue to better understand and reduce health disparities. Dr. Abrams conducts international research in collaboration with community-based and health service organizations and she is fiercely dedicated to sexual health promotion among women of African ancestry - with a focus on sexual and maternal health. She has secured numerous federal funding awards to support her work, including funding from NIMH, NIMHD, NHLBI, and Fogarty International Center.

     

    Dr. Abrams has also founded 4 companies, including the Thrive Institute for Professional Development. The mission of the Thrive Institute is to offer transformative training and professional development experiences to advance productivity and well-being among early career researchers at research intensive institutions. In her downtime, Dr. Abrams enjoys yoga, dancing salsa, painting, and playing with her Miniature Schnauzer pup, Phoenix.

    Miracle Allums, LMSW, RYT-200

    Miracle Allums is a Licensed Master Social Worker and fierce advocate for holistic wellness. As a part of her holistic wellness journey, she became a Labor and Postpartum Doula, Yoga Instructor, and a Reiki II Practitioner. In her experience as a Psychotherapist, she noticed a need to provide more holistic support for Mental Health Professionals, particularly those in private practice. Thus, she founded Mhoodle, a concierge virtual support service for Mental Health and Wellness Professionals.

     

    In addition, Miracle recently launched a premium wildcrafted sea moss and wellness store, The Mossy Mob. Customers benefit from a boost in their immune system, easy digestion, increased energy, and a thriving libido. In her downtime, you can find her at her favorite yoga studios, roaming the aisles of health food stores, snuggled up with a book at a cute cafe or cuddling with her big pups Sasha and Louie.

    Gretchen Fletcher

    Gretchen Fletcher is an experienced Executive Assistant, specializing in coordination and event planning. In her current role as a Senior Executive Assistant, she began to see the need for admin support for professionals in various industries. As such, Gretchen founded Upper Echelon Consulting Group. Their mission is to provide high quality administrative support organizations of all sizes, from small startups to large corporations and individuals. They strive to consistently deliver and maintain detail-oriented support, coupled with familial rapport and top-notch professionalism.

     

    Gretchen is also passionate about health and wellness. She enjoys working out daily and meal prepping to provide balance and nutrition for her face paced lifestyle. In addition, Gretchen has found humbleness and grace within her spirituality. She leads a bible study once a week with like minds and has found great joy in embracing that leadership role.
